Ultimately, when you're traveling in non-English-speaking regions, pack a phrasebook it's good manners to try 'Please' and 'Thank you' in the neighborhood tongue!
Also, do not forget to examine the Visitor's Bureau of the region you're going to visit. Many towns have an online Visitor's Bureau which will give certain details about the region.
